In a remarkable achievement for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Chandrayaan 3’s lander module made a soft landing on the lunar surface. This makes India the fourth country to successfully land on the moon, joining the ranks of the United States, Russia, and China. What sets this mission apart is India’s first-ever touchdown on the moon’s polar region.
This region of the moon has been of great interest to scientists because it is believed to contain water ice, which could potentially be used as a resource for future human missions to the moon. Additionally, landing at the lunar south pole allows for exploration of new areas that have not been visited by previous missions.
The launch took place at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 14, 2023, at 2:35 pm and the lander touched down the lunar surface at 6.03 pm today. The entire ISRO team at Mission Operations Complex (MOX) in ISTRAC, Bengaluru, erupted in jubilation as the lander touched down on the lunar surface. The successful landing marks a significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey.
Interestingly, the connection between Chandrayaan 3 and the Kollywood film industry adds a fun twist. The project director, Mr. Veera Muthavel, shares a similar name with a character played by superstar Rajinikanth in the movie “Jailer” – Muthuvel Pandiyan. Furthermore, the lander of Chandrayaan 3 is named Vikram, which is also the title of a recent blockbuster film starring Kamal Haasan. Both movies have been huge successes for their respective stars.
India now stands proud as a nation that has successfully made its mark on the moon. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the determination, brilliance, and collaborative efforts of the entire team at ISRO.
Congratulations pour in from all corners for team ISRO for their outstanding achievement. They continue to push boundaries and inspire generations with their astounding feats in space exploration.
